Germany goalkeeper Enke killed

German international goalkeeper Robert Enke has been killed after being hit by a train at a level crossing, police said on Tuesday.

Police said that the death could be a suicide.

The 32-year-old Germany and Hannover 96 goalkeeper had been suffering from a mystery ailment recently.

He pulled out of the Germany squad two days ahead of their 4-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Azerbaijan in early September.

We re in shock. I don t know what to say, said national manager Oliver Bierhoff.

Enke doubled for first-team keeper Jens Lehmann during the 2008 European championships and had been in line to fill his boots before being taken ill in September and October.

During that time his rival Rene Adler increased his chances of taking over the ro…

Watford 3 Manchester United 1: Mourinho suffers third straight loss

Juan Zuniga scored 53 seconds after coming on and Troy Deeney netted a stoppage-time penalty as Watford beat Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday, condemning Jose Mourinho s men to a third consecutive defeat.

A dramatic opening period saw Odion Ighalo miss an open goal for Walter Mazzarri s side, before Paul Pogba struck the crossbar from long-range for the visitors in the Premier League clash at Vicarage Road.

Etienne Capoue then put Watford ahead with his fourth goal of the season, but Marcus Rashford – handed his first Premier League start of the campaign – equalised after the break.

However, that would not prevent United from following up defeats to Manchester City and Feyenoord with another loss, Zuniga capping a great team move just moments after coming on a…

Van Persie unsure of long-term United future

With 18 months left to run on his contract, Robin van Persie admits he is in the dark over his long-term Manchester United future.

Robin van Persie is unclear about whether he has a long-term future at Manchester United.

The Netherlands international striker is in his third season at Old Trafford following his August 2012 move from Arsenal and has 18 months left on his existing deal.

While his return of 56 goals in 97 appearances for United is excellent, Van Persie has been hampered by his fair share of injury problems.

And it remains to be seen what United have planned for Van Persie, who turns 32 next August.

It is not up to me, Van Persie told reporters on Monday at an event to mark the launch of United s link-up with Swissquote as…

De Bruyne at Manchester City for the long term

Kevin De Bruyne has made it clear he has no intention of leaving Manchester City any time soon as he is loving life at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgium international joined City from Wolfsburg ahead of the 2015-16 campaign and has since developed into a key figure at the Premier League side.

De Bruyne had spells at Genk, Chelsea and Werder Bremen prior to his arrival in Manchester and is now ready to settle down.

I am feeling very well at Manchester City. We [De Bruyne and partner Michele] really like our life and have settled here, De Bruyne told Sport/Voetbalmagazine.

The past few years have been hectic and we want to embark on a long-term project now. We no longer want to move all the time. Not so much because I am 25 now, but mainly because everyth…

AC Milan complete Reina & Strinic signings

Pepe Reina and Ivan Strinic have completed moves to AC Milan on three-year deals.

The Serie A club announced that the signings of both players were sealed on Monday.

Goalkeeper Reina and defender Strinic were both available on free transfers after their contracts expired at Napoli and Sampdoria respectively.

Reina s arrival is likely to fuel speculation Gianluigi Donnarumma could leave Milan, although sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli previously indicated this would not be the case if the 35-year-old former Liverpool star did sign.

Donnarumma s agent Mino Raiola has regularly spoken about taking the shot stopper away from San Siro, the teenager having been the centre of a long-running transfer saga in 2017.

While Reina s arrival adds to the…

WYC: Costa Rica eliminate hosts Egypt

The 2009 World Youth Championship is over for Egypt. In the round of sixteen, the hosts crashed to a 0-2 defeat by Costa Rica.

The thousands of fans at Cairo s International Stadium couldn t prevent that Costa Rica s Jose Mena put the Central Americans in the lead after 21 minutes.

Although Egypt tried to fight their way back into the game, it was instead Marco Ureña to decide the clash, 0-2 with two minutes to go in regular time.

The Costa Ricans will have to wait and see which team they face in the quarter finals, but it will be either Venezuela or the United Arab Emirates. Those two face off in their round of sixteen game on Wednesday.

Swindon chairman Power to take charge of first team

Swindon Town chairman Lee Power will take temporary charge of the first team after the sacking of manager Mark Cooper on Saturday.

Swindon lost their fourth game in succession against Millwall at the weekend, leaving the club 20th in League One out of the relegation zone on goal difference only.

The club have since released a statement confirming the decision to dismiss Cooper and revealing that Power will manage the first team until a replacement can be found.

The football club would like to place on record their thanks to Mark for his outstanding work ethic and commitment to the job during his two-and-a-half-year tenure, Monday s statement read.

Unfortunately, performances and results this term have not been as good as the club had hoped for with the …

Ivory Coast 2 DR Congo 2: Serey Die rescues point but holders still in trouble

Ivory Coast s defence of the Africa Cup of Nations remains in doubt despite rescuing a 2-2 draw with DR Congo on Friday.

Geoffroy Serey Die s deflected strike midway through the second half ensured a share of the spoils for the reigning champions at Stade d Oyem and denied Florent Ibenge s side a win that would have sealed their place in the knockout phase.

Neeskens Kebano opened the scoring for DR Congo after only nine minutes but Wilfried Bony, restored to the starting line-up, equalised with a firm header.

Junior Kabananga netted for the second time in two games to restore DR Congo s advantage in the first half but, just as Ivory Coast were looking short on ideas, Serey Die struck to level the match once more.

Michel Dussuyer s side pressed for a wi…

A staggering 107 points still saw them finish second, behind Wrexham, but they then claimed a blockbuster 3-2 win over Boreham Wood in their play-off semi-final on Sunday as Jodi Jones’ strike in the final minute of extra time capped a comeback from 2-0 down.

Now, Saturday’s play-…
